Remembering Padma Bhushan, Jaspal Bhatti — The Real King of Comedy
Tejinder Singh Bedi
Padma Bhushan and the true king of satire & clean comedy Jaspal Singh Bhatti’s birth anniversary yesterday was celebrated with a large number of his Pecosian friends through various social and other platforms both in Chandigarh as well as in the NCR of Delhi.
Jaspal Bhatti until today undeniably remains one of the wittiest and most intelligent as well respected satirists of our times who has left a great legacy for his college, alumni & followers of his art form behind him.
Remembering Jaspal on the occasion his wife Savita Bhatti described him as one of the most fearless humorists who really had a unique style of exposing all corrupt practices of the erstwhile governments, social order, and some of our irrational systems. His presentations used to be so unique that even the ones most affected by his satire found it difficult to detest him and rather developed love for him eventually leading to the same orders and systems conferring him with a Padma Bhushan award in 2013. Some of his best creations included his Non-Sense Club, Flop Show, Full Tension, and Ulta Pulta — all episodes of which appear so relevant to today’s society too.
If the world of Ghazals had showcased Chitra Jagjit as the best couple of ghazal singing from India, the team of Savita & Jaspal also remains the best couple duo of satirists from our country, concluded Bedi..
Many of his fellow alumni fans from the Punjab Engineering College of Chandigarh described him as a great visionary, who was always far ahead of his times, a Jadugar Pecosian from our prestigious Alma Mater. Those front running in joining in his remembrance this day included some of his closer pec mates like Col S Kaul, V D Sharma, Rajinder Kaura, Durga Dutt Rajdev, Vinod Sawhney, Sukhdev Singh Aulakh, Charanjit Singh Sodhi, Cdre Krishen Kumar Chandra, Wg Cdr Gurmeet Singh, Swarn Singh Kalra, Swinder Pal Singh, Surinder Chinda, Yogesh Jain across different batches and multiple locations.
